Why I Brew My Own …
March 12th, 2008 by Sonja

i am in hell

I know this will probably offend the 3.2 readers I have left.  Sobeit.  I hate standing in line at trendy coffee houses.  It is hell.  I wish there would be a line for those of us losers who just want plain, unadulterated …. coffee.  And fix it ourselves.

Sorry, I’d be in the other line. I can make plain coffee at home…for the twice a month or something I go to a coffee shop, it better be fancy. 😉

But I’ll remember that next time you and I go for coffee, and I’ll let you go ahead of me.

Well … for you, I’d wait happily 😀

Sonja! Remember … gas station coffee! Personally, I can’t touch gas station coffee anymore, but they don;t have long lines!

    Sonja,
I don’t like frou-frou coffee. Just give it to me black and strong, whether at home or in a coffee shop. The only thing I’m willing to adulterate my coffee with is Starbucks liquer, and of course they don’t offer that at the local coffee shop.

LOL!!!! I do find all the froo-froo a bit silly but admit that when I want one (which is rare because I can’t bring myself to pay for fancy coffee) I want it my way.

And I’m still reading… I know you don’t know me and I’m not sure how I found your blog and I know I NEVER comment but much of what you write resonates with me, or at least makes me think.

    Keep writing!

    Oh shoot, did I misspell froo-froo? 😉

    I’ve always spelled it fru-fru.

I don’t care for coffee, plain or otherwise. I tend to get a hot tea or a chai latte. Both of those are relatively quick to make, especially the hot tea. Put the herbs in the bag and toss it in a cup of hot water. Next!

Actually I think mine was the french spelling.

(Can you tell I’m supposed to be working?)

Woohooo! Glad I am not the only one! And our gas station has incredible coffee.

LOL … this is just hilarious. I leave for a couple of hours and look what I come back to. I am, indeed, in good company and among friends.

Unfortunately, my experience with gas station coffee is that most of it is sock water. OTH … if I havta get coffee out of the house, I’ll drive quite some distance to get Dunkin Donuts. McDonalds is a pale second. For frou-frou (like my compromise?) … I’ll stop into a Caribous or an independent. But never that chain that began in Seattle (which shall not be named). Not that I’ll get frou-frou … I’ll just get plain coffee … with cream only. No sugar. No flavors. Just the coffee of the day, fair trade if they serve it. African is best. But I’ll take Central American in a pinch. 😀

When you come to Boise I’ll treat you to a cup of fair trade african coffee. The place is a little frou froo (hehehe) but it is full of great art and is owned by our very best friends. It is an old church. BTW Fru in Swedish is wife so fru fru is wife wife, just thought I’d throw that out there.

Amen! Same goes for Dunkin’ Donuts and all their funkie breakfast stuff

Well sadly (or maybe not from my perspective) I go to that Seattle place enough that I don’t have to wait in line and my drink gets made anyway…now that’s kind of cool!!

I agree. And I hate making the mistake of trying to drive through a Starbucks for a quick cup of java, thinking the line looks short and then realizing that the two cars in front of me both have fru fru orders in that will take eons while all I want is a hot cup of black coffee.

We had a talk on the new monasticism in a coffee place, and the coffee was over-roasted and force-fed, like pate de foie gras.

McDonalds has gotten a lot better. Really good the last I had. At least here on the West coast. Free wi-fi too.

I know. Simple coffee and a Windows computer. I’m such a plebeian.

LOL! I’m with ya on the standing in line thing….and what is it about listing a complicated drink, that they sound like they are listing their pedigree? :)
I will be working at that chain-that-must-not-be-named….and I love my own coffee at home better.
Though I love the frou-frou drinks..
Cinnamon Dolce Latte extra hot no whip……Dutch, tall, female, brunette………

I don’t drink coffee anymore (just the occasional decaf at a meeting), but I hate waiting in line for anything :)

Oh I am so the frou-frou coffee type. If I’m paying for coffee out – it’s gotta have flavor shots, and chocolate chucks in it (thinking Caribou’s Mint Condition here…). Even at home I go for the horrible for me creamers. But I hate ordering at the coffee shops too – if you speak the wrong language (small instead of tall, skim instead of non-fat) they correct you like your an idiot. I hate that – I don’t care to be indoctrinated into their corporate lingo.
